Dr. Steve Kaftel is a Specialist Physician who qualified from the University of the Witwatersrand in 2019. He completed his training at Chris Hani Baragwanath, Helen Joseph, Charlotte Maxeke, Donny Gordon, and Edenvale Hospitals. He commenced private practice at Life Bedford Gardens Hospital in April 2020, during the COVID-19 Pandemic.
At Life Bedford Gardens Hospital, Dr. Kaftel was elected as the ICU Lead Dr for a two-year period. He also serves as the Stroke Champion Doctor (current) and the Antimicrobial Stewardship Champion Doctor (current), spearheading excellence in these respective areas. He is an integral member of the Medical Advisory Committee to Life Bedford Gardens.
Dr. Kaftel is committed to providing quality patient care with compassion and kindness. He holds a Master's degree in Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease and has a special interest in smoking and its related health consequences. His primary focus is on respiratory conditions, particularly Asthma and COPD. His other interests include Diabetes, Infectious Diseases, Critical Care Medicine, and Preoperative Medical Assessments.
Dr. Kaftel is married to a Dermatologist, and they have two daughters. In his spare time, he enjoys spending quality time with his family, a competitive game of Padel, and watching Manchester United win.
He maintains an unwavering dedication to his patients and is readily available via phone, WhatsApp, and email. Dr. Kaftel values collaboration with GPs and other medical specialists to ensure holistic patient care and is always willing to meet with families to discuss medical conditions clearly.
